Dormont Free Pantry

The Dormont Free Pantry (DFP) is excited to announce a new partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. This partnership will enable the DFP to expand the amount and variety of food offered to better serve patrons in Dormont and surrounding communities.

With this partnership, the pantry has shifted to designated walk in hours and appointments for food shopping instead of the open-access model it currently operates. The DFP will purchase food in bulk through the Food Bank, allowing donations to be spent more efficiently. Each dollar spent through the Food Bank can provide the equivalent of 5 meals.

Walk-in hours are on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 6-7pm and the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from 2-3pm. Appointments can still be made by calling 412-405-1390.

Community members who wish to support the pantry’s efforts can make monetary donations through the Dormont Community Development Corporation. On Venmo, search for @DormontCDC and tap “business” to find the DCDC account; be sure to include “for the pantry” in the memo line.

The Pantry greatly appreciates the enthusiastic community support over the last two years. They still plan to partner with businesses and community organizations to do drives for harder-to-source, expensive items like hygiene products.

This past summer, the pantry celebrated the second anniversary of its growth to the basement Borough of Dormont municipal building and of officially becoming a project of the Dormont Community Development Corporation.

The Food Bank partnership creates more room for the DFP to grow in the coming months, including taking steps toward offering fresh eggs and produce and frozen items, expanding the type of support provided to patrons.

Dormont LGBTQ Community

Dormont CDC is proud to share that it supports the formation of a new advisory committee: the Dormont LGBTQ Community Committee.

This committee includes individuals who have been involved in organizing Dormont pride for the last several years and we are very happy to be able to formalize our partnership and begin focusing on growing Dormont’s annual pride and other queer-inclusive events.

If you’d like to get involved with the committee or have additional questions, please email DormontCDC@gmail.com.

If you’d like to donate to support the work of the committee, you can do so through DCDC’s Venmo account by searching “Dormont Community Development Corporation” and adding “LGBTQ Committee” in the “What’s it for?” section.
